Gylemuir Primary School

Activities for Pupils in Gylemuir

CLUBGOLF

This year P5 pupils have had the opportunity to learn to play golf. ClubGolf is a new and fun way to learn how to play golf. You start off with specially designed clubs and balls.

After 6 weeks of practising in school, it's off to Turnhouse Golf Club to learn more skills from their members. We are very lucky to be working with Turnhouse Golf Club. They are the first Golf club in Edinburgh to become involved in this way.

FOOTBALL

Football is very popular in Gylemuir with boys and girls. We have teams which represent our school at many stages. We are lucky to have parents and teachers who are willing to help run our teams.
Each Saturday we have many teams representing our school in a fair and sporting way.
Look out for information telling you how to join your year group football team.

GYMNASTICS

Gylemuir has a very successful Gymnastic club which meets on Mondays and Fridays in the gym hall. We are very fortunate to have Judith Knight, one of our parents, organise this activity.

Pupils have taken part, with great success, in competitions at local, Scottish and British level.

SAILING

P 7 pupils can try out sailing at Port Edgar. Many pupils have tried this club and really enjoyed learning to sail and gaining their Level 1 certificate.
In the Autumn term you go along for one week to try out a boat and learn some basic moves. Later in the Spring term, you have the opportunity to go for six weeks where you learn much more about sailing. At the end of the course you may be awarded your Level 1 certificate.
Mrs Kerr- Peterson will give out information to P7 pupils at the start of term.

JUDO
Judo has recently been introduced for our younger pupils in P 1 - 3. This has been very popular. judo is held in the Dance and Drama base on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Look out for information on how you can join the judo club.

RUNNING CLUB

Pupils in P6 and P7 are welcome to join the Running Club. This meets on Wednesday lunchtime. At the moment everyone is training hard for a cross country event to be held later this term.

See Mrs Ho or Mrs Short if you are interested in joining the running club.

KNITTING CLUB

The knitting club is held on Wednesday afternoon after school. This club is for pupils in P7. During sessions, some very creative pieces of knitting are created using lots of different types of wool - these are always very popular.

Mrs Shand coordinates the knitting club, with help from Mrs Nicholson and Mrs Welsh.

FRENCH AND SPANISH

Pupils from P1 - 7 take part in these language classes after school. French activities have taken place for a number of years and Spanish is a recent addition to our after school clubs.

Shereen Baird is the tutor for these activities. Further details may be obtained from the school office.

BASKETBALL

The basketball club takes place on Thursday afternoons. Pupils from P6 and P7 may join the basketball club. At the club, you learn new skills, improve your game and join in games.

Later in the term the club takes part in competitions.

Mrs Jackson coaches the basketball club. See letters which are handed out to P6 and P7 for more details.
