Science Week

Despite not getting to eat their ice-poles, children really enjoyed carrying out various experiments throughout the week and were fascinated by the results. Our melting ice-balloons produced very interesting ice mushrooms and led to some very in-depth (no pun intended) discussions. Thanks to all for supporting children in making their homework observations. The children enjoyed getting the opportunity to show off their knowledge to those who were able to visit the classroom on the open morning.
In keeping with the Science Week theme of Water- Freezing and Melting, we were lucky enough to be able to visit Murrayfield Curling Club for a taster session of curling. Thanks to help from coaches, parents and grandparents the children had the chance to experience different aspects of curling and were able to play short games. Many a budding talent was spotted! Should any children wish to continue the sport, the Curling Club run beginners classes on Sunday morning.

Drumfun

What can we say? The perfect opportunity for the classes to show their natural rhythm in a setting where they were positively encouraged to make as much noise as possible. Fantastic!

Health Week

During Health week, the children took part in a variety of activities designed to encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle.  Among the activities on offer were Club Golf, the Sport Relief Mile and Street Dance. Our dance instructor Jennifer took the children through their paces and was impressed by the level of ability and enthusiasm shown by all. The golf, led by Mr Kinnear, was very popular and the children really went for it when running the Sport Relief Mile. Thank you very much  for all your donations .

The Vikings are coming!

This term the children have been investigating the lives and times of Vikings. Having carried out some initial research themselves in class and at home, they had a very enjoyable and informative visit to the museum where they went through the rigours of Junior Viking Training school . Apart from gaining a great deal of information about how Vikings lived and fought, they also had to live up to their Viking names and be able to roar loudly. They all passed with flying colours.

Within school the children built Viking longships, wrote in Runic script and create printing tiles with their initials in Runes. They also made models of Viking warriors and designed and made examples of Viking jewellery. The whole project was topped off by the children's fantastic efforts at recreating Viking artefacts for our class museums. We have a wonderful selection of shields, weapons, helmets, longboats, cups, jewellery and even a model Viking. This project has been undertaken with great enthusiasm and will be rounded off next term when children create a power point presentation based on in-class research.
