Dear Parents/Carers

As ever this session is rushing past and the children are working hard in all areas of the curriculum.

So far this session, children have discovered the delights of Old Edinburgh (be sure to ask them about Gardy Loo!), they have investigated Light and Sound and are starting Solids, Liquids and Gases . Through Mapping the children are becoming familiar with the main features of the continents of the world.

They have contributed enthusiastically to our Burns’ Assembly and the opening of our Peace Garden. Tying in with the Peace Garden, children have started to discuss Rights and Responsibilities within a global context.

As part of Expressive Arts children have experimented with a variety of media to produce both representational and abstract pictures. They have had several sports tasters and are currently practising their Tiger Woods’ swings (well chips anyway!). Line dancing has also been a big success.

Language (including Italian) and Maths are progressing well. We are impressed with the number of children who submit their well - presented homework on time. We appreciate the support they are given.

Environmental Studies;

We have both our Science Week topic of Endangered Species and our Farming topic to look forward to after Easter. Apart from carrying out in - class activities we will be undertaking some interesting trips. Details of these will follow in individual letters but a timetable and approximate costing is listed overleaf. These activities link directly to A Curriculum for Excellence and provide the children with additional active learning opportunities.

Expressive Arts:

Our trip to the Imaginate Festival to see the dance show Echoa will expand children’s cultural experience.

Secret Garden:

As the better weather approaches (we hope) we will be tending to our vegetable patch so may be asking children to come prepared with wellies.
