P6 Spring 2009

WORLD BOOK DAY - 5TH MARCH 2009

This year our theme for World Book Day was 'Grab a Book! Share a Book!'

We decided to focus on sharing a book. On World Book Day we met with our P1 partners to share a favourite book.

Everyone enjoyed thinking about what book they could bring in to read to their partner.

We all met after break and got our books out - ready to enjoy a good read! There was a real variety of books - from 'Star Wars' to 'Little Women' and 'Little Red Riding Hood' to ' Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School.'

After sharing stories we took some photographs and recorded the names of the books we had read.

In our libraries you can look at the pictures and see us enjoying our shared reading time.

PORTRAIT WORKSHOP AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY - FEBRUARY 2009

As part of our art programme we visited the National Gallery in Princes Street to view some of the paintings and sculptures on display. We then produced some sculptures of our own.

When we arrived we were given a guided tour of the galleries and focussed on discussing some of the stories behind the paintings and sculptures on view. We were challenged to produce some sketches based on the art work.

In the afternoon session we used our sketches to help us create our own clay sculptures. We were trying to show different expressions and emotions in the faces of our characters.

We really enjoyed working with the clay and are proud of our creations. They are all completely different!

Once we were back at school, we painted our models white just like some of the sculptures we had seen in the gallery.

They are now on display in our very own gallery!

BURNS CELEBRATION

We met with our Primary 1 partners to celebrate the 250th birthday of Robert Burns.

With our partners we showed off our dancing skills by performing some of our favourite Scottish dances. Everyone had a great time!

During a break from our dancing we had the opportunity to sample some Scottish treats - oatcakes, cheese, shortbread and Irn Bru!

Our Primary 1 partners entertained us with some poems they had been learning. We performed 'Highland Cathedral.' Then it was back to the dancing before finishing with 'Auld Lang Syne'.
